A "Grid Down" situation is where you are left without electricity for an extended amount of time, lasting many weeks, months or potentially years. The "grid" refers to the power grid in your area. Preppers prepare for an extended loss of power by acquiring alternative sources of light and heat, as well as cooking methods that don't require electricity.
